Re: please comment on low blood sugar-reactive hypoglycemia-weight loss-glucophageFrom: Eija (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 22 Feb 2003 11:24:03 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I've never posted here before... This thread really caught my attention, though, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out. As far as PCOS goes, I don't have an official DX, but I feel that my doctors are just not putting things together... For a number of reasons. My ovaries are characteristically cystic appearing on trans-vag u/s, and are horribly painful much of the time. ----i hope my post makes sense.. i am holding my 8 month old nephew in one arm and typing w/ the free hand)---- I noticed several posts talking about insulin resistance in the absence of high fasting glucose levels. I am particularly curious about this, as it seems that my only problems w/ blood sugar have been hypoglycemia. Quite often after eating a meal, my glucose will range between 50 and 60. (the first low reading was picked up in routine basic labs-- self-checks at various times thereafter) Does anyone know more about this? I have not had a rapid weight gain, but there are other things that lead me to believe I may have PCOS– The biggest of which is a fairly little-known association between PCOS and a disease known as pseudotumor cerebri (which is increased pressure within the skull, put simply). I've had pseudotumor for about 2 years, and have had many of the symptoms of PCOS for roughly the same amount of time. There are a lot of details that I could go into, but this post is already quite long... I am just so happy to have found someplace where I might be able to get some answers. If anyone knows more about insulin resistance manifesting as hypoglycemia, I would be very interested.. Also, if anyone knows about PCOS in people of normal weight.. Does it start out mild and progress to include weight gain later on? Thanks so much-
-- Eija
