Re: PCO and abdominal painFrom: Jackie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 20 Feb 2003 21:55:45 -0600 (CST)
Agi, I am 21 years old, when I was 19 I was diagnosed with large dermoid cysts (1 on each ovary). I expereienced a tremendous amount of pain. My cysts doubled in sixe during my 3 month wait for surgery. yes, they made me wait 3 months. The extent of pain was unendurable. It got so bad so fast, that I was put on a morphine prescription. The pain was daily, constant, and very intense. All through my abdominal area. I never had any other symptoms before, during or after this period. No weight gain, nothing but pain. At first I remember thinking it was a bad bladder infection. Next thing you now I was in the Hospital, screaming in the waiting room. I was on morphine for 3 months prior to my surgery, and for 2 months afterward, on very high doses. I am not trying to worry you, because all my doctor's said most women with cysts don't experience much pain. What made them painful was the fact that they are dermoid cysts. This means they aren't soft, they are hard like rocks. So imagine that diggin gin to your insides. As far as them giving you the pill, I don't understnd, because I always suspected the Pill had been a major cause of my cysts. because of the estrogen. You will feel very tired and lethargic for awhile. I also read a response from another woman replying to your message. And she had expressed concerns about the laproscopy. I don't know about that personally, I had a full abdominal surgery, and a pretty 5 inch scar to take away from it all. But I do know that they don't have to surgically remove them as long as they are smaller in size. My cysts were 4cm square on the left, and 5cm square on the right. I don't know if this information from my experience is any help, but I hope it is. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to chat!! Jacqueline
