Metformin

I have been dutifully taking my Metformin at the doctor's prescribed dosage of 1000 mgs per day. My system is so sensitive that I can't go out anymore unless there is a bathroom in sight. The doctor told me to try taking 1/2 of the first pill in the morning, and then the remaining 1 1/2 pills before bedtime. This does not seem to help. Any advice short of taking anti-diarrheal pills? My doctor has told me this is a no-no. Thanks for any information you can give me.
