Wondering if I have PCOS & questionsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 6 Feb 2003 16:39:07 -0600 (CST)
I am 37 and pretty much since I started menstruation I've had horrible cramps. My cycles used to be regular, but often every 5-6 weeks apart. I recently made an appointment with a new OB/GYN and while on the website read about PCOS...alarm bells started ringing in my head.... 5 years ago I suddenly stopped being regular. I would go 3 months without a cycle and then have 1 or 2 and then skip months, etc....I aksed my doctor (regular) and she sent me for sonograms (2x) which showed nothing. My pap smears also turned out normal...During this same time, I started to gain weight very easily...I have now gained 50 pounds which I am trying to take off through weight watchers and increased exercise (boy is it difficult.) Since I was 20 I've had a problem with facial hair (lip/chin). My doctor sent me to endocronologist who did blood tests. They showed raised levels of progesteron, but nothing else....I want to find out once and for all what is going on with my body...I took the test on the PCOS website and I am in the risk category. What questions should I ask the doctor when I go in 2 weeks? How were you diagnosed? I feel like in the past none of the doctors I saw put the clues that were right in front of their faces together.
