PCOS, insulin resistance, apple cider vinegar and pregancy success? From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 2 Feb 2003 15:17:31 -0600 (CST)
Hi there! I have quite a few questions to ask, so I apologize in advance if this sounds like a bit of a mess... I am not entirely sure that I have PCOS, but I definetely do have a suspicion. I have had irregular periods since I was about 18 (4-6 a year), and have some pretty nasty hairs on my chin and abdomen. I have been doing a great deal of resarch on PCOS over the net, and I find the links to insulin resistance very interesting, because I have a family history of type two diabtetes in my family, and I think my lack of periods may be tied to insulin resistance. What's interesting is that I recently tired apple cider vingear because of it's weight loss effects (I am normal weight, but had gained a few pounds from my first semester of dental school!), and I had a completely normal period..the next month.the same thing...has anyone else had a similar situation, and do you think the two things are tied together? (apple cider vinegar has been used to trat diabetes for some - but it is not common, as it is a general cure for many ailments) I am 23 years old at the moment, and do not plan to have kids for the next three years until I finish dentistry, but I often have great fears that I might never be able to have children, and it scares the life out of me. I am not sure what to do at the moment..perhaps it would help to hear the rates of success of women with PCOS, or just a few words of affirmation. The other problem is, I don;t wish to tell my fiancee about this yet...it's almost like I'd rather not know myself, because I fear he might not think of me a "full woman" if I need all this help to conceieve or cannot concieve at all... I apologize if I sounds pessimistic, I really don't mean to...but can anyone relate to this? if so, what do you do to quell these fears? God bless anyone who replies ot this e-mail, because lord only knows how much it would help me right now...*hugs* so, I guess my questions were this: 1) what should I do about the insulin resistance to try and get my periods regulated? 2) how can I quell our fears about not having children? Thanks soooo much! Love, Michelle
