?Sonnet or anyone--breastfeeding, metformin and hypoglycemia

I have a 9 week old little girl and have opted to go back on my Glucophage XR while breastfeeding her (I took it throughout my pregnancy without any problems) based on the advice of my MD and her pediatrician. Glucophage is a biguanide and unlike sulfonylureas, it should not cause hypoglycemia. In reading what studies I could find, they say that Glucophage given to healthy people would not alter the glucose production from the liver. Therefore, I am wondering if you know why the PDR cautions you to watch for hypoglycemia in the baby. I also read that in another response you gave, Sonnet, do you know why this is so? I am concerned that if my baby becomes hypoglycemic, I will not know it. Thanks so much for any input you can give. I know there is so little known on this subject...I am just trying to gather everything I can on it! Thanks!! Heidi
