Re: Any advice? (sorry, long)

I would shoot for bugging the doctor with all the medical research on PCOS and Metformin. Your husband might have issues but you still need to get yours resolved also. At your age, there isn't any excuse to hold off. I'm not sure where he's getting his information about Metformin. I've seen a couple of articles that talk about weight loss and exercise for diabetes prevention, but the vast majority concerning pregnancy (your goal) for several years all suggest at least a trial period of Metformin and that it is effective.

My other concern is that your long cycles would indicate egg quality being a problem. Even if you do get pregnant, I'm not sure about what the result might be in the end.

That is truly a problem that the IVF head is that far behind in the research. I'd definitely be interested in what they are using for as the basis. Without it, you have a much harder time trying to combat his ability to look at other options besides weight loss.

I talked to my doctor last week since I felt something needed to be done about me too. I told him my concerns and asked if I should be prescribed metformin. His response was that it really isn't proven that it'd make things better, it's better to lose weight (I should point out that I live in Europe and apparantly the leading expert in this area in Europe does not think that it is metformin itself that has effect, rather it's the weight loss that often follows it that is effective). He felt I should wait in any case until my husband's problems have been solved. So, what should I do? Try to convince my doctor with papers or just wait and see what happens? Try to lose some more weight?
