Hi,

Most importantly, don't stress about this, there are so many things you can try and good chances that some of them will work.

I have pcos and although I am normal weight I had extremely irregular cycles which I regulated with the BC pill for years. After about 5 years of taking the pills I got negative side effects - lots of yeast infections and major pms, though. Sometimes you have to give your body a few month's to adjust to the pill, but if you feel lousy on one pill or have side effects - see if you can switch until you find one that works, some are better than others.

When I wanted to conceive I went off the pill. It wasn't easy - after about 2 years of trying I am now 14 weeks pregnant. But, it might now have been my problem entirely as my husband had a very low sperm count. Herbal medicines worked to restore my cycle (but don't take these without advice of a doctor) - they can have dangerous side effects like any other drug.

We turned to alternative medicine (herbal, acupuncture) with an experienced practioner and it worked. The doctors all said there would be no hope without icsi on account of my husband's issue.

I didn't have a weight issue, but through increased exercise (1 hr per day) I managed to lose a little weight 5-10 lbs. before becoming pregnant anyway and I felt really good at that weight. I don't know if it helped, but it didn't hurt, either. I found that taking some lecithin supplements helped my skin, too.

My advice is to focus on doing what makes you feel well. Choose foods that you love that are also good for you, note how you feel after eating them. Eat the ones that give you sustained energy. Choose exercise that is fun for you, don't let others including docs. stress you out. etc. Consider combining alternative treatments with conventional ones if the conventional ones don't work well enough (always under the advice of an experienced practioner).

Probably there is no one solution for your condition, but luckily there are many things you can do. The BC pill is a good starting point, continuing to follow a proper diet and exercise along with that will probably help a lot, too.

Good luck.
