If you are severely craving a piece of fruit, then have some. Your body is trying to tell you something. It is healthy, and most fruits are low glycemic which means they do not use much insulin for digestion, and when eaten on an empty stomach before meals, which is when it should be eaten, it leaves the stomach very quickly. Best time to eat fruit is first thing in the morning before your breakfast.

I eat a high protein low carb diet. I eat a good helping of 2-3 fruits every morning before my egg/cheese omelet. I never felt it made me gain weight, nor prevent me from losing. Foods that disrupt my weight seem to be potatoes, corn, wheat, and sugar.

Good luck!
