Re: atkins induction question about fruitFrom: tera (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 20 Jan 2003 16:18:02 -0600 (CST)
Hi! You really do have to be strict about Induction - sorry!! :( In the Atkins book it talks about how on other diets "cheats" are allowed but the Atkins diet is based on the science of how your body uses carbs. If you do not allow the science of the Atkins diet and other low carb diets work, your weight loss will be slower - or you may not lose. Hang in there...Induction doesn't last long and contrary to what others may tell you, fruits ARE allowed on the Atkins diet - just not during the Induction period. As I'm sure you're reading, after Induction, you should be in ketosis and starting to lose weight - you then need to slowly add more carbs (and eventually some fruit) until you find the highest level of carbs per day that you can eat in order to still lose. Your carb portions (including fruit portions) will be based on that. Anyway, Atkins is a good choice for women with PCOS since many PCOS women are very resistant to losing weight. Some PCOS women have had success with diets that allow more carbs like The Zone - but be aware that The Zone does not work for all with PCOS because it is higher in carbs but I have heard that some like it more than Atkins. A GREAT website that has helped me A LOT with low carbing is http://www.atkinsfriends.com it has a support board like this, menus, recipes, tons of before and after stories and pics, a carb counter, etc. etc. You might want to check that out. P.S. You just started Induction - it does take about a week before some of those carb cravings start to subside. God bless, Tera
