I am responding to your letter because so far, in my research of PCOS, you are the only woman who holds the mindset I do. The thing is that I am 19 years old and I was diagnosed last week with PCOS. My whole life I was 105 pounds and then in the past year I have gained 20 pounds. What makes this so hard is that I am a vegan and I do watch my carb intake. I also exercise, but this stomach wont leave me. I suffer from other symptoms of PCOS, but the weight gain devastates me, because I feel it only escalating with every combatant effort. I have resigned to eliminate carbs(and sugars) completely from my diet and I need help. What am I left with being a vegan? Is fruit okay? Also, my gyne doesn't listen to my weight concerns and only has started me on birth control, yasmin, where the most common side effect is weight gain. I can deal with PCOS in all other respects, except in regard to weight. I am a college student at Sarah Lawrence in New York where eating disorders thrive, but I want to be healthy and strong and question my will. As you can see I am pouring my thoughts out on you, a stranger, because I lack trusting iividuals in my life to confide in. Those not suffering from PCOS don't understand the weight battle. Fat connotations always prevail in this world and I need help beating it. Can you offer me any direction? Thanks for reading...
