Re: advice on DrFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 15 Jan 2003 23:39:04 -0800 (PST)
ValeriGail, When I changed drs all I did when I came to the one I have now (she's my OB/GYN) was I gave a copy of the letter from the endo that diagnosed me that was sent to my PCP at the time. Then that way she could get some kind of an idea. As it turns out she knew how to treat PCOS too. With my other problems especially the Endometriosis I started from scratch. I didn't give any other records except for the last op report when it came time to do so. For all of my female problems she's who I talk to about them. I never had to let my PCP know if I didn't want to but I usually preferred to just b/c I felt that they should know. This was when I was under an HMO that didn't require me to have a referral to gynecologists. My last HMO required a referral. The dr that I chose as my PCP got a copy of my medical records from the gyn's office so that she could see what was going on. Sometimes I talk to my gyn about other stuff, this was especially important to me a few years ago. I see my gyn more than I do any of the other drs I've ever had, and if something happens that I need to have something treated and it's close to when I have to see my gyn I will tell her instead. I did that when I burned part of my hand (was only like a first degree burn) and she was able to treat it for me. Gave me some wonderful medicine to help with the burn and between it and the Vitamin E I was able to get that burn healed pretty fast. Insurance companies are different so it's hard to say which one requires what. Feel free to e-mail me privately any time. ===== Kristy :) http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html For women who are interested in additional support http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Endo_Vulvodynia_PCOS/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Zoladexforendometriosis/ I am a Medical Secretary who does a lot of learning from reading on the Net, books, my dr(s), as well as sharing my own personal experiences.
