NEED SOME QUESTIONS ANSWEREDFrom: HILARY (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 30 Dec 2002 12:45:26 -0600 (CST)
I had not heard about PCOS until this year when I started seeing a new OB/GYN. She said that I had a lot of the symptoms (irregular periods, facial hair, weight gain around mid-section, etc.) and wanted to test me for it. I did a little research and I finally thought that all of the questions I had about my "problems" had finally been answered. My doctor did some bloodwork and the results came back negative. Since these tests, I have heard more and more about PCOS and am convinced that I have it. A tech at my laser hair removal center said that my doctor should have done a sonogram, not just bloodwork, since hormone levels can change frequently. I was also told that I should go to an Endocrinologist to be tested. I am so confused! I don't want to follow bad advice or listen to hear-say, especially since doctors visits aren't cheap. Can anyone who has been in my situation give a little advice? Any and all information is greatly appreciated!
