Re: 19y/o with PCOS HELPFrom: ValeriGail (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Dec 2002 13:56:54 -0600 (CST)
Hi Denise Welcome to the board! I Know how you feel. When i was 20 (i am now 27), I was seeing a doctor for endometriosis (not knowing anything about pcos at the time). The doctor told me that i was completly infertile and would never be able to have children. He wanted to do a surgery to diagnose the endo, and also at the same time do a complete historictomy... AT AGE 20!! And the whole time i was actually pregnant!. Test results came back the day before the surgery positive! I thought it was a miricle!. So dont always go with what one doctor says, see a few if you have too. (think i saw about 20 doctors, over a 7 year span, before i found one that would listen) When i first heard about PCOS I was positive that was what i had. Took me 3 years to get a diagnosis. So you are ahead of the fight by one huge step! i did alot of research on the web and learned alot, but i needed something right in front of me that i could go to at any time i needed reasurance. I found this wonderful book... "PCOS... The Hidden Epedimic" by Samuel S. Thatcher M.D,, Ph.D. It has alot of medical stuff in it, but somehow its just easier to understand. The chapter on "body image" is by far my favorite.. helps to reasure me that i am not alone in any way.. shape..or form! Also.. this forum is wonderful. The women on here are very supportive and very willing to lend an ear, or shoulder. They have helped me greatly... whether it be day to day stuff, or a bit more serious. There is alot to learn from the ladies here :)
