Hives from Birth Control Pills? Suggestions Needed for alternative methods. From: Leslie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Dec 2002 12:25:12 -0600 (CST)
I went to 4 Alergists before we found out I am alergic to Birth Control Pills. They believe it may be the filler that is added to make it pill form. We have tried 3 different brands and with each one I have had more problems. I have now been off BC for 1 1/2 years. I wanted to find out if anyone else ever had this happen. The situation that occured was like this. I was taking bc for about 3 years. All of the sudden without warning I started breaking out in hives the 2nd day of my preiod. It was annoying to say the least. Over the next 8-9 months I would be fine all month long and then the 2nd day of my period each month I would break out in hives from head to toe. I was on Ortho-Tricyclean and so they switched me to Alesse which gave me hives, swollen lips and blisters inside my mouth. That's when we realized it had to be the pill. So I went off the pill. Now that I have been taking Metformin for PCOS I am concerned about my increased fertility. I don't want to be pregnant right now in my life and I was considering using a new kind of pill, patch or shot. Any suggestion for an alternative birth control. I am currently using condoms. Thanks, Leslie
