Hi everyone!

I used to post really regularly but I've tapered off over the past few months. I decided to write in to update my situation.

I found this forum a little over a year ago and it has helped me so much. I have now found treatment for my PCOS and I have seen improvements.

I'm one of those PCOS ladies whose tests come out negative for insulin resistance or borderline IR. I read on this forum about Metformin and the insulin connection and PCOS and I researched it on my own and discovered that the latest for PCOS is the use of Metformin or Glucophage and a low carb diet and exercise. So, I took all of my information to my doctor and talked her into letting me at least try Metformin. I am overweight and I am a classic case of PCOS (overweight, ovarian cysts, anovulation and of course infertility problems, very few periods, head hair loss and excessive facial hair and body hair growth, etc.). My doctor said okay to Metformin and to Spironolactone for head hair loss.

Well, I started taking a MERE 500 mg of Metformin per day last December (so it's been a year) and I am pleased to report that I went from hardly ever getting a period to getting a period each and every month since!! For those of you who think that since you do not "test positive" for IR and your doctor says you absolutely would not see any benefit from taking it should think again. I'm not saying that Met is for absolutely for EVERYONE but clearly there is a connection. If there was not a connection than there wouldn't be so many women who are being helped by it. Look at what a low dose I'm taking! I'm not taking gobs of meds - I don't need to in order to see benefits. My doctor is truly amazed. I still have PCOS of course and Met is not a miracle cure but it has put many women with PCOS on the road to health.

On my website I have an article that I have posted about PCOS - the causes, symptoms and treatment options. I also have a list of very helpful links and my personal PCOS story on "Tera's Page". Here is the address: http://home.att.net/~jandtchavez/opening.html and you're welcome to visit anytime (just copy and paste into your browser or type it out). I don't visit here that often but feel free to e-mail if you'd like. God bless you all and thanks for all of the help over the last year!!!! :) Tera
