Re: age the different aspects of pcos began? From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 17 Dec 2002 14:23:44 -0800 (PST)
Jenn, I don't remember such an article being on MedScape and the age correlation but I will check and see. I know that one of the last articles that came out on PCOS by Turkish experts agreed with one thought that I had as to how I got PCOS. I had to take testosterone shots 31 years ago to help me with some problems I had at the time, I was premature: born at 36 weeks. I asked the endocrinologist that diagnosed me with PCOS in 1996 if he felt that the testosterone shots might have had something to do with this and he said no that it wouldn't do that even years later. Well, I've since discovered otherwise. I developed my breasts at 11 years old, and started having my period at 13 like a lot of the kids of my generation even though my mother had started her periods at 11 she said. Apparently that was normal for her family so she thought I might too. I will try to see if I can find the article that talks about what I discovered in relation to myself. Also, even Dr. Thatcher has a few theories on how PCOS is caused, and one of them kind of touches on what I'm talking about in relation to the PCOS. I'll see about finding that list at least the chapter to refer you to if interested.
