Possible PCOS ????

Hi, I have had irregular, heavy and painful periods since I was 13 (sometimes so bad I had to crawl to the bathroom because the cramps were so bad - I have a very high pain tolerance). At 18, I began losing my hair, and have now lost more than half of the density at age 24. I was on the pill from age 19 - 23, and stopped taking it last January after breast-reduction surgery (It was making me sick w/ all the other meds I was taking, & I decided not to go back on) Since I stopped taking the pill, I had a cycle the month after, then nothing for 3 and a half months, a cycle, nothing for 4, and the last 2 cycles have been a month and a half apart. My husband and I now been married for 2 and a half years, and would like to begin a family soon (We have not been using a backup method since January). After the second long cycle, I went to my PCP, and she decided that we needed to do blood work, which showed nothing abnormal. She decided that since I want to start a family soon, she should go ahead and do an ultrasound to see if she can find anything. The ultrasound came back clear, but she still wasn't satisfied, so she has referred me to her OBGYN. I had my appt. w/ him this AM, and he is putting me on Progestin? for a few months to regulate my cycle, then Clomid probably beginning in June, and drew blood to check hormone levels. (He picked up right away that I probably do not ovulate) We did not discuss my weight gain [have gained 40 pounds in the last 2 years. My eating habits really haven't changed that much, although I admit I tend to eat too much fast food when life gets busy. I have been able to lose a couple pounds at a time by eating well and exercising, but after a couple weeks, I stop losing weight. In high school, the ONLY way I could lose weight was by starving myself, (I was a cross-country runner who ran an average of 5 miles per day, and didn't lose weight by exercise). After I moved in with my then fiance, I began to put on the pounds (about 20). I went to the gym, and worked out with a personal trainer, stuck to a strict diet (1200 calories per day), but was unable to lose weight until I cut the calories down to between 5 and 800 per day.} or that have bad acne, with has been almost completely unresponsive to topical anti-biotice treatments. I also have been taking an anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drug for the last 6 months. I found this site while I was researching an illness my mother-in-law has been diagnosed with, and just happened to click on a link for PCOS which included all the symptoms that I have. Obviously, the "Poly-Cystic" portion doesn't apply to me, but from what I've read today, often cysts are not present when a woman has this disorder. I am now anxious. Can anyone out there give me some insight? Thanks for your help.
