Yes, it is perfectly safe. My doctor suggested I cut my pills in half when I found that 500 at once is just too much for me, and 250 (3 times a day) is a perfect dose for my body.

I am really surprised that the company that makes glucophage has not caught on to this yet, and would start to make 250's. My sister who is a nurse said it's very popular and common for people to cut their glucophage pills in half.

Just be sure you do not cut the time release pills (glucophage XR), as those are different.
