I have had fantastic success with weight loss, fertility restoration and reduction in facial hair. I'm using a combination of carefully researched nutritional supplementation and a LOW CARBOHYDRATE DIET. Those are the words to think about. I started out with the Fat Flush Plan by Ann Louise Gittleman (find it on amazon.com and read the book synopsis) and went onto Dr Atkins' plan (find it at the the atkinscenter website- do a search and it will take you there) for a while but did not lose a lot. However, many many people are losing with Atkins. You MUST read these books, or indeed any other good book on the subject (of which there are dozens) from cover to cover, and do it EXACTLY as suggested to be safe and effective. Now, instead of following any one plan, I am just really strictly cutting down the carbs- bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, cereal, grain-based foods of all kinds. I know, I hear everyone thinking, but I can't cut those out, or even down, I live on them...well, I proved to myself- If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten! And furthermore, if you don't change things, you won't change things. Since beginning my regime in June of this year, I've lost thirty of the forty pounds I needed to lose and am working on the last ten. They are shifting slowly but surely. Almost even more amazingly, by combining this low carbohydrate regime with careful and faithful daily supplementation (essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9), magnesium, zinc and a few other vital nutrients) I have actually given myself my periods and fertility back! I have had monthly ovulatory cycles every month since July- for the first time in my entire life. These two things have convinced me that I have found a healthy and effective way to bring my body, despite my PCOS, back into the condition it's meant to be in- slimmer, fertile and yes, a bit less hairy! That (hairiness) actually fluctuates a lot with my newly regulated cycle- just before my period it grows fast and at other times, it does not. The most important thing I can say to anyone who is despairing at these symptoms we all have with our PCOS is this: research the low-carb way and really consider it. There are lots of good plans, lots of good websites and phenomenal results to be found. As with anything, your mileage my vary- BUT I believe that this is the most exciting concept to hit the world of PCOS in a long time- don't pass it by without consideration!
