Re: cysts/boils in the armpit?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 18 Nov 2002 00:12:36 -0600 (CST)
They are normal, but I don't know how much they have to do with PCOS. My mom had them and she didn't have pcos - although she is insulin resistant. I think if you do a search for boils (and underarm or armpit)you will get more info. The only thing that ever gets rid of them for me is putting hot wash cloths on them for several days and them popping the heck out of them. Sounds awful and hurts unimaginably, but if I don't do it they NEVER go away. (had one for almost a year! EEEECK!) Sometimes I poke them with a needle so that they are easier to squeeze. Sorry if this is too gross, but the darn things bother me so much when I get them that I want to help anyone possible from my experience. Seems like they come only once or twice a year (thank God!) so perhaps yours are just due to your environment or horomones and you won't get too many more. From my research I read that dr.'s can actually lance them, but that it's pretty painful and they have to be pretty bad. Other than that I don't know if dr.s can do much to help. But they are common and are normal and if you want to find out more the info is readily available online with a search on boils. (that's where I read about the hot washcloth thing.) Well, best of luck, and don't worry too much...I was sure I had a tumor or swollen lymphs the first time I found one.!
