Re: Can Cheno cause PCOS?From: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 09 Nov 2002 07:09:29 -0800
PCOS arises from insulin resistance to some degree (most people believe this, a few disagree). While chemo has many side effects, I've never heard of this being one, and I can't make a mental connnection between chemo and the receptiveness of each cell to insulin. And, I suspect chemo may diminish our ability to produce insulin, not overproduce, which is what many of us do. Many people first notice their PCOS symptoms in their teens. It may be coincidental that both happened at the same time. No matter the cause, she needs to get under the care of a doctor knowledgable about PCOS. That person may be primary care, GYN, endocrinology, or, most likely, reproductive endocrinology. Congrats to her on surviving cancer. Renee
