Now what??From: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Oct 2002 17:30:46 -0600 (CST)
So I am trying to get an official diagnosis. Has anyone had their hormones tested with a saliva test? My doctor will not accept them even though he agrees with the results. He wants me to get blood tests to confirm what he already believes. I do not have insurance and do not forsee me getting any anytime soon. The blood tests are going to end up being around $500.00. I'm sorry... as much as I want a diagnosis, I can't afford that. I keep hearing everyone say how important it is to catch PCOS early. That the earlier you catch it the better it will be to control the symptoms. Is that true? I am already low-carbing and eating no sugar and I feel alot better, but my periods are still out of whack and I still have all the dark hair everywhere. I know my testosterone is still high too, cuz excuse me, but i am still incredibly horny all the time. My oldest sister also has alot of the same problems. Now my middle sister who we thought was in the clear, is starting to get longer, thicker, darker hair on her forearms and even though she hasn't gained any weight.. it's distribution is changing. She is starting to get more of a belly. She has always been skinny. My doctor told me that I can control PCOS mostly with diet. That I don't have to go on medication. Now I am not so sure about that. I would appreciate anything that anyone has to say about all of this. Thanks in advance!!
