Re: ady To CryFrom: Amelie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 2 Oct 2002 10:06:02 -0500 (CDT)
"What symptoms of PCOS do you actually have? Do you have cystic ovaries?" You know, I don't even know? I have a little facial hair, a little fat on my belly that doesn't move, my temples are thinning (Mom's hair very thin, grandma was nearly bald, both had/have diabetes and were obese). My uterus bleeds every day and I don't appear to ovulate. No ultrasound for my ovaries, but I had one on the uterus last year, no one said anything about funky ovaries. Have you tried any other birth control pills Yeah, they always comment on how last year alone I was on 7 different kinds. I think I've tried 12 or 14 different kinds in the past 10 years. I liked Ovcon 35, boy did it affect the size of my breasts in nicely surprising way! But it made me bleed heavier. Did your doc suggest metformin? Yes, he said it makes women ovulate, and that if I was IR I could try it, but that I probably wouldn't like the side effects. My fasting ratios were 5.333, so he's not going to put me on it and I was told to stick with low carbs and the yasmin. Some people have the added benefit of menstrual control from the met, even if they are not IR. I wonder if he knows that? The doctor I cried in front of was my GP, not my OBGYN. I chose him because he told the patient advocate that he would send me to an endocrinologist if necessary. They have all determined it's not necessary, which makes me feel like an abnormal freak for complaining. I have all my labs, they are all normal. How do you know for sure that you are not IR? Did your doc do a fasting insulin or a complete IGTT? Many of us have a normal fasting insulin but the IGTT reveals the IR. I don't know what IGTT is, but I thought my levels were on the high end of normal(though I am not a doctor, so what do I know) Have you been screened for thyroid disorders (not sure) von Willebrand's disease (isn't this life long?), How about fibroids? (yes, screened. I don't make any) Have you had an ultrasound to measure the thickness of the endometrium within our uterus? Weird! No, I haven't, but if this keeps up I will call and ask. good luck, SusieQ Thanks, SusieQ!
