newly diagnosed... well sort ofFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 27 Sep 2002 02:25:57 -0500 (CDT)
My sister and I have had the sneaky suspicsion of having PCOS for over a year. I have done a lot of research on the internet trying to figure out what in the heck is wrong with me. I do have pain, like cramps, many days out of the month. Sometimes they are very bad. Particulary at night for some reason. I have been trying to lose weight for at least 6 months unsuccessfully. In fact, my doctor offered to put me on Xenical if I was interested. I am 22 years old and about 50 pounds overweight. I have so much dark hair on my face and neck... and now it is spreading on my chest and back. My doctor told me in the beginning that is was probably from being overweight. I think I laughed at him on the spot. I just knew there was something more to it. I had a saliva test done to test all my hormones. The only one that was normal was my night cortisol. My testosterone and DHEAS were high, while all my female hormones were low. My morning cortisol was also high. However, my doctor doesn't like saliva testing... doesn't think it is accurate. So I am going to have a ton of bloodwork done next month. How do you find out for sure that you have PCOS? My doctor more or less told me and my sister that we have it along with insulin resistance. He is already talking about putting us on Glucophage. I haven't had any tests done for insulin resistance... I don't even know what test they do for it. I would appreciate any feedback. I also wanted to ask if anyone experiences itching... like right over where your ovaries are. It especially occurs on days when I am cramping. I have problems with terrible mood swings, anxiousness, concentrating, forming words or just plain confused, headaches and migraines, fatigue, high blood pressure (just switched to Norvasc from atenolol... it was giving me chest pains), handling stress... I need to get a job, but just the thought of it makes me stress out so bad!!!!! I also only have about 8 periods a year. I have been reading messages in this forum and decided to try a low carb no sugar diet to see if it helps. Thanks for listening.
