Re: Hello, I'm new here...From: Amelie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 21 Sep 2002 18:55:00 -0500 (CDT)
Being totally new to this board and this disease, but TOTALLY relating to the periods (I break into a cold sweat on my lips and shake a lot, so they send me home from work sometimes.) Oh you know. Maybe what, 5 times a year, when I am actually having a "period" as opposed to constant drainage "bleeding". I have lost 3 lbs this week on a VERY restrictive carb diet. I said I would do it, and I have. I also found out yesterday that my fat % was .2% lower than a few days before. Yay for me, good luck to you, my dearie! Used To Be Me: fruit eater, rice eater, diet drink drinker, mainly healthy high complex carb food eater in general. Used to skip meals and eat out a lot. Me Now: This week I radically changed all that, have taken 2 15 gram or less in carbs snacks(May I just recommend a brand here? carb solutions chocolate almond brownie fills me up, has tons of protein, and sort of (sort of) tastes like a candy, also it's 14 carbs) to work, eat a very weird breakfast (2 pieces of turkey meat with a chunk of cheese, or an apple with a 1/4 cup of walnuts). I feel a little better (I think I have more energy), and ahem, my gas and weird bowel stuff I never mentioned in my original post has virtually disappeared over night. One of my friends commented today that I haven't said "excuse me" for a passed gaseous emission ONCE this week. Probably, and this is something I will run by my dietician when I see her in November, due to my inability to process sugars properly, so I think they were causing gastric distress all this time and I just thought I got it from my dad. When you get to your doctor, tell him/her you want to be assessed for PCOS and all other hormone related crud, AND you want a referral to a dietician, no ifs ands or buts. I almost got sidelined by one of those "classes" that Kaiser wanted to send me to, but I succinctly left a message for the RD that I actually had been recently diagnosed with a "condition" that causes insulin resistance, and I wanted to run a low carb diet possibility by her. She said "good for you" when I told her what I had and what I wanted to do about it. I'm 3 inches taller than you and about 10 lbs lighter, but I am also very very active in general. Of course, I have to wear a damn tampon all the time, but screw it. I like to hike with my dog. Also, I carry my weight in my stomach, nowhere else really. I really wish it went to my boobs. Sigh. and I'm big, so it's spread across my abdomen like some venus of old. But guess what, it's killing me, so I am killing it first. Anyway, I wanted to say hello because everyone else was amazingly nice to me when I posted yesterday. And good for you for recognizing you probably fit this disorder/syndrome right away. I think I was in denial for a year. Sigh. Another year of not getting my sh*t together and managing what can't be fixed. My only advice to you, as someone who has been SERIOUSLY disappointed with medical people lately, Tell them they are fired when they don't pay attention, demand specific tests, and get a patient advocate if you feel like you can't do it all alone. I did. Wonderful gal, that Erin. She got my doc kicked into gear and helped me get a nicer primary care physician to boot. Much love to you, and good luck with your fertility attempts. Man, at least it's fun TRYING, you know?
