Re: A BIT CONFUSEDFrom: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 20 Sep 2002 22:00:55 -0500 (CDT)
The glucophage is for helping to control your PCOS. It will eventually make it much easier to conceive, and will help you to become much healthier! It can often restore regular periods but it's not the sort of thing that works immediately, like Provera. It doesn't induce a period, it helps get your hormone levels back to where they should be, which eventually helps you to ovulate regularly, which eventually leads to regular periods! The Provera is used to induce a bleed. It is a period that happens without ovulation. It does happen sometimes that it doesn't work. There are a bunch of possible reasons for that, including too low a dose, pregnancy, or even adrenal problems. Your doctor would be the one to ask about what's going on in your case. Clomiphene is taken at the start of a cycle to induce ovulation when it's not happening or to force a "stronger" ovulation if you are. I *believe* that you usually ovulate a week or so after stopping the drug, so would get a period (if you aren't pregnant) about 3 weeks after you stop taking it. Hope that helps clear some stuff up!
