Re: A BIT CONFUSEDFrom: Leona (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 20 Sep 2002 05:14:08 -0500 (CDT)
Hi there I went without a period for two years but developed endometrial hyperplasia (a build up of the lining that is not shed in the womb) and this needs to be treated as it is a pre-cancerous condition (...try not to worry it is not as scary as it sounds). I was given progesterone in a high one-off dose to clear the build up and you need to be taking this once every couple of months to protect the health of your uterus if you don't get a period. Sometimes provera doesn't work the first time if your natural hormones are really out of balance. I would ask about having an ultrasound to look at your uterus lining and if you are not responding to tablets, there is a manual procedure for removing some of the excess tissue. Glucophage takes a while to work, it was 5 months before it started working with me but now I have regular periods so stick with it. The research evidence suggests 40% of women taking the medication for PCOS experience a restoration of menstruation spontaneously within 6 months. Good Luck Leona
