Hi,

I think both could be true and doctors are still not completely sure of the cause of PCOS and it is still being debated around with...not every woman who is diagnosed with pcos is insulin resistant. Some women have normal fertility and reproductive health and then they gain weight for reasons other than pcos and then they exhibit the symptoms of pcos and in most of those women weight loss will reverse the problems. Then there are some that truly do have insulin resistance and those are most likely the women who do well on metformin or glucophage or even eating a sound diet approved by a dietician the same as for diabetic patients. I do have pcos but I am not insulin resistant. I used to be thinner and had regular menses and so forth when I was younger but when I got out on my own I indulged in some extrememly bad dietary habits lol and I admit I am totally responsible for my weight gain and really the weight gain was the culprit in my case. Now that I had been on a proper eating regimine I lost nearly twenty pounds quite quickly and ended up conceiving which I had never been lucky enough to do in all the years previous I have been trying. There are other women though that I know who do have insulin resistance and they have done well with medication adn have been able to lose weight adn conceive etc... I guess you'd just need to figure out which type you are lol.

hopes this makes some sense lol
