Hello Everyone! My name is Amy and I just found this site! I have been reading some posts and wow! It's amazing to find so many women going through the same thing I am. For a long time i thought i was crazy! Now i know i am just a member of a special club! Here is my story... Early onset of puberty...5th grade...i thought it was wierd since i was a very active athlete. I battled with painfull periods until i was 16 when my father eventually had to rush me to the emergency room. I was then put on the pill. In my sophmore year of college, i got my period and it wouldn't go away. I mean i would sit on the toilet and just drain. (sorry that is gross) eventually they did a DNC and when that didn't work they put me on the depo shot. Ooo that thing was horrible! To make a long and similar story to everyone else's short, after grad school, i was frustrated with not knowing what was wrong wityh me. My OBGYN, whom i HATED, told me i had PCOS but he didnt know much about it and to find another doctor. My wonderful father found a GREAT internist who worked me up with bloodwork. She diagnosed me with PCOS and hypothyroid. what a great combination! I always wondered why in college instead of the freshman 15, i put on the freshman 50! It was really hard at first. I found out these results a week before i got married. I started tx with glucophage but all that did was make me violently ill. so now i am on avandia and have had great success with it. as of the beginning of august, all my levels are normal. avandia doesnt help with losing weight but at least i am beginning to feel normal. My last appointment my doctor told me that we could start trying to get pregnant. I know there is still a long road ahead of me but its so great to finally have answers. my husband has been so supportive of me. its not to say that he doesnt get tired of me feeling ill sometimes but all in all he has been there for me. So it is great to meet you all and i wish you all the best. thank you for allowing me to hear all of your stories and advice.
