Re: Metformin question?From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 11:46:40 -0500 (CDT)
The way Glucophage is intended to be gievn is like this: You start at a very low dose, let your body adjust to it, and then slowly, slowly increase it until you see a reduction in symptoms or reach what your doctor feels is the upper limit of what you should take. (The official maximum recommended dose is 2550mg/day.) Our bodies are all so different, and there are so many degrees of PCOS really, that what works for one may not work for another! For some women 500mg may be all they need, for some it's much much more. I will say that in most of the PCOS and Metformin (Glucophage) studies that I have read, they use 1500mg as a "therapeutic dose." So my assumption is that is the standard, more or less. But what works for you, works for you!
