Re: sweating-Me too!From: Lindsey (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Aug 2002 20:19:13 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Christine, I have the exact same problem!!! I feel so self-conscious now as it does not take much, like you said, to start the faucet going. And it is just my head and face too. Now I do not have problems waking up with the sweaty hair-that sounds like night sweats to me which come with menopause or perimenopause as in my case. You may want to check into this as there is a correlation between PCOS and what they call premature ovarian failure which is perimenopause pretty much. Estrogen made those night sweats go away. The worse thing is being in Nursing School and going to clinicals and actually sweating on a patient! It is so embarrassing and disgusting. And of course I live in Arizona where it is hotter than you know what! Okay here is how it came about for me: diagnosed PCOS at 17 yrs old-on pill for 17 yrs, no problem. All of a sudden starting get "hot flashes" at work and gaining weight in strange places for me, places I never had problems with before like my stomach, back, neck. WE all laughed about the hot flashes as I was only 27 yrs old and NO ONE thought that could seriously be it. Hey, I worked for the Medical Director of a health plan and was surrounded by nurses! So I go from doctor to doctor-endo, Gyne, internal med etc. Finally end up very depressed and on SSRI- Effexor SR. Then found to be perimenopausal and started on HRT. Still sweating so the estrogen be raised and raised and raised. Finally at a very high dose and still having problems. Not due to thyroid....no one had an answer. My blood pressure med is suppose to help with sweating and the central nervous system that accounts for this reaction-did not work. Finally found forum on internet where others were having the same problem! It was due to the SSRI come to find out. So went off it but still no help. Then started on Buspar which is an anti-anxiety med. I do actually think it may be starting to help! I seem more temperature tolerent now and the sweats are not as bad. Hope this gave you some areas to check on at least in your research. Lindsey
