Hi:

Can anyone help me. I am convinced I have PCOS although two OB/GYNS have told me I don't. I have always had irregular periods ranging from about 6 weeks up to 3 months. I am now 33 and want to try to get pregnant. Anyway, I went ot my MDs after finding out about PCOS. They ran a series of blood work-LH, FSH, estrogen (day 3) testosterone, glucose and insulin, which all came back normal. The reason I feel I have PCO--beyond the irregular periods-- is that I also have adult acne. ITs not that severe, but its there. And all the other testing they did for other possibiles causes came back normal as well. Both MDs seem to think I simply have "slow eggs" and said "some women are like that" I tend to trust these MDs as they are on faculty at a medical school, but I still feel I am not getting a full work up. I also have a history of pregnancy (an abortion when I was younger), which I think added to the MDs feeling that I don't have PCOS. As my hormone levels were normal, they did not feel it was necessary to order an ultrasound. I'm now trying to get a referral to an endocronologist.

Anyway, my question is, can you have PCOS with normal hormone levels?? I also don't understand where this acne is coming from if my hormones are supposedly ok.

Also, just as an aside, I am seeing an acupunturist for my irregular periods. In the past, acupunture has regulated my periods and I know that my acupuncturist has successfully treated women with PCOS who wanted to conceive.

Thanks!!! Laura
