An On Going Battle

My name is Diane and I am an IT specialist.

I first noticed the symptoms of PCOS at the age of 15. At this age it was discovered that I had numerous cysts (one of which was large and torted). This effected everything else - I couldn't eat or sleep and it was of the recommendation of my doctor to have it removed. Fine - I'll feel better, or so I thought! Six months later I developed another large cyst on my other ovary and again the advice was to have it removed. And again, I thought that would be the end of it.

Pain did not subside and I visited my doctor regulary. They though that I was suffering from some kind of trauma due to what had happened to me and try to get me to see shrink! After being made feel like an idiot I ignored my problem and put down the pain to adhesions.

I ignored it for too long.

I had an operation last year (at the age of 24) which was meant to be 'exploritory'. Yes, I had adhesions but they were more severe than even my doctor expected. My left ovary had been trapped between my bowel and womb and the lenght of time that this had been left for resulted it in being 'dead'. The tube on that side had also developed infection and had to be removed. On my right side, the ovary was covered with large cysts and the right tube was twisted and stuck to my bladder. The operation proved to be so traumatic that my pulse and blood pressure went crazy and I had to stay in hospital for 2 weeks.

After leaving hospital, myself and my partner decided that it was time to have children as I didn't know how long my other ovary could cope.

I am now nearly 26 with no children.

I do not feel sorry for myself as I always think that there is someone else worse off than me. My only message is not to be complacent about this syndrome. The repercutions can be devastating.
