Re: Met and pain reliever question?From: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 27 Aug 2002 7:21:26 -0400
Hi Barb, You mentioned other changes you made in diet in another post. It is possible that had some effect. Some things also get better on their own. I started out with cramps, went from OTC aspirin type meds and the pill helped up until the point I was diagnosed with endometriosis. Those prostaglandins are really at work :) I know lots of people think that natural = safe. After the Chinese diet pills, Herbalife, St. Johns' Wort and the ginko studies and articles that have come out, where natural products can have negative effects or none at all, for me, I like to err on the side of caution in what I recommend. Since legally, products without testing can't be labeled to cure or treat diseases, and there is no legal requirement for testing as to whether or not product batches have in them what they state on the label, it makes me a bit nervous. I'm a penny pincher: if I buy something, I want to know it works and I'm getting what I paid for. (So far, I think I have about $52 coming back to me in rebates from things I've bought.) They have found anti inflammatory properties in Capsicum (http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/cgi-bin/abstract/94515784/START). However, we don't know what the purity is of those strains. A look on PUBMED found that some Capsicum strains have had a virus in them.
