Re: Glucomannan - Pysillium Husk

Hi,

I have never heard of Glucomannan, but I have just started using pysillium husk (also a pure soluble fibre source). It definitely helps in feeling full, however, if one takes too much one feels very bloated (which can take ages to resolve) and I have found that major! gas can be a side effect until one gets used to it. Also it makes my gastritis much much worse (probably because it delays gastric emptying and my gastritis is apparently due to a motility problem....) and so far I have also found it causes intermittent diarrhoea (isn't that lovely!). Also I am careful to take it separately (by at least 4 hours) from the meds cause it may affect drug absorption due to trapping things within the fibre. Anyway, I am persisting with it for now. From what I have read it is supposed to help with regularity, satiety, lowering cholesterol..... etc. And it is supposed to be completely safe.

Anyway, I guess it does not hurt any of us to increase our fibre intake.

Best wishes

Sally
