Re: acne control ?From: Sonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 Aug 2002 14:40:16 -0500 (CDT)
My acne didn't start to really get better (I hate to say this) until I had been on a high dose of glucophage for about a year. I am currently on 3000mg/day. I use cheaper, OTC products: wash my face once a day with a mild soap (I like Purpose) and once a day with a salicylic acid cleanser (right now I am using Nuetrogena.) Occasionally I use an over the counter benzoyl peroxide gel. But I have used all of these products (and others, including Proactiv) in the past without success, it's the Glucophage that seems to have done it. Furthermore, I get much worse acne when I take Metformin instead of Glucophage (go figure!) I am not currently low carbing, I don't remember if that makes a big difference to my skin or not. About a year ago, at its worst, I had cystic acne on my face and so many smaller pimples you couldn't count them. This morning I have one small one on my chin and that's it! You can see some small pock marks / scars on my cheeks still, and parts of my cheeks are still red from the scar tissue, but I think that will fade. I'm happy with the results right now, my face looks seriously 100% better and I feel much more confident. I don't know why it suddenly happened but it did - hang in there with the meds and see what happens! Getting to the right dose is important and letting it have enough time to really work on fixing all of the imbalances in your body is worth it even when it takes a while.
