Melissa:

I just joined OA last week (so I've been 5 days on the program). Here's what I've noticed so far. First of all, I felt an overwhelming sense of support and acceptance from the ladies there. Second, I now have hope where before I had none. Third, I realize that even though my body is not "normal", I was feeding an addiction by eating things that triggered me to overeat.

I've lost 3 lbs so far this week, but I'm not as excited about that as I am about how I feel inside.

The abstinence program simply says that the OA member chooses, every day, not to take the first bite of a food that is a known trigger. That's it. It's not a diet program. But the idea is so simple, and yet so powerful, it has been extremely helpful.

As part of my current abstinence I've given up eating candy (cuz it triggers me) and cheetos. I'm just trying hard to stop eating the moment I am full, and to not eat triggers. So far, so good.

I would suggest going to at least one or two meetings and seeing if this might be something that will work for you. Can't hurt, might help, as my mom always said. As for me, I'm humbly grateful to have found them.

Hugs!!
