Re: Dr. ThatcherFrom: Renee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 21 Aug 2002 08:27:24 -0700
Pubmed doesn't use first names, just initials. I did have to do a little detective work on it. I went to Amazon to read the book flap with his work history, so I knew where he was at different times. Then, I did the search for Thatcher S. His initials are SS; some publications have S and some have SS, so just putting in S would retrieve them all. Then, I looked at the titles, and excluded anything that was not an OB/GYN topics (such as rehab and neuro). I looked at the abstracts to see where the authors were located. I eliminated any that didn't match up with his placements, with a lag of a few years after he left it since it takes time to write up work and get it through the publishing process. One thing to keep in mind is just because someone did original research does not mean he's an expert, and that someone who didn't do the original research is not an expert. A researcher may be focused on one piece only as a specialty, and does not see the whole picture, or real patients. And, someone who assesses all the research out there and compiles it into a useful, comprehensive form, may know a whole lot more, especially when based on clinical experience. Renee
