Re: more help needed on ortho-tricyclen

Hi Amy,

Not sure what he meant, but OTC would absolutely not be a first choice for BCP in a PCOS woman. No triphasic ever would. Each person reacts differently to BCP. For hirsutism, any of the pills would do fine. For me only, I would push the issue that you want to try something else. If they keep pushing that issue, then I'd want to know what PCOS research they've done on BCP to substantiate this.

I had a NP who pushed Ortho only products. I'm sorry, but it makes me wonder why. If I'm taking the medication, it shouldn't matter to the doctor what I take. Depending on the health plan, the Ortho products were more expensive. Norethindrone would not be my first choice for a BCP either.

Good luck,

I talked to my endo today and asked about the triphasic pills and leading to cyst formation. He said that he still wants me to try ortho-tricyclen because it has the lowest estrogen dosage. Can anyone explain this to me?

Another PCOS patient of his went on Yasmin and had really bad side effects. He wants me to try it and we'll switch it if I have any problems. So what side effects should I watch out for? It's not like I can examine my ovaries and watch for cysts...

Again this is for hair loss.

Thanks,
Amy
