Hi Amy & Victoria, I read Victoria's message and reread mine. I"m guessing it did sound a little harsh, so let me start over again. I started to take birth control pills 7 years ago to regulate my period (I menstrate about once every 8 or nine months). I didn't have any weight gain on them. I taking rogaine so I didn't notice any real difference in my hair. I was about 4 mos. into "the pill" and regular periods when I dislocated my knee. About a week a week later I came home from a wedding fairly cure of my bad knee. I sat down on my bed and all heck broke loose. I got charlie horses in my calf that made the the dislocation seem like nothing. It lasted for about an hour. I was on the way to the hospital when it finally subsided. 2 days later, I went to the doctor for a presceduled check-up. Sitting in his waiting room, I got up to stretch. The next thing I remembered was a bunch of people hovering over me. Between the wedding and the doctor visit, blood cloots in my calf had traveled to my lungs blocking but one lobe. I was told that if I suvive the 1st hour I would probbally be ok. They put me on large doses of heprin and I got to stay in the intensive care unit for 3 days, then 4more in a regular room. I'm not trying to scare anyone with this, but here is some points to consider about taking estrogen based bcp and blood clots. Being overweight(which I am), or smoking(which I don't)are increase risk factors for blood clots. So is a family history of relatives having strokes, heart attacks, or blood clots while taking estrogen for menopause. It's not that common, but common enough to happen to me. If your taking bcps for their intended use, you need to weight the pro with the cons. If you just want to help your hair, I highly recommend the rogaine. I went for having carefully hairsprayed comb-over, to a mderately dense growth. Not back to what I had in highschool, but not bad.

I hope this helps you make an informed decision. Sorry my fingers babbled on. Janet
