Day 3 Blood Work Scheduled for Day 4 - Is this a problem?From: Lenora (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 12 Aug 2002 18:47:31 -0500 (CDT)
Well, today was Day 3 and I went in to have blood work done to test for PCOS. They asked if I was fasting so that I could do the fasting insulin/glucose tolerance test, and I said no, that I had planned to do that test in a couple of days, when I wasn't still cramping from my period and needing to be on meds. I had called this last Friday to set this up and explained all of this. They didn't question it then, just set me up for a 2:30 appointment for blood work today, and said I could set up the IGTT when I came in. Well, I get there, and they're all in a tizzy because I'm not fasting and ready to do the IGTT. I first talk to one nurse, she talks to the doctor, then the tech calls me in to do the blood work, asks me if I'm fasting. When I tell her no, then she talks to another nurse, who talks to the doctor again (I never saw the doctor -- he was with other patients), then they tell me all the blood work needs to be done at the same time (i.e. the 3 hour IGTT along with the other tests), so they schedule me to come in tomorrow morning. I'm cramping real bad right now, and just took VIOXX, which usually lasts me about 8-9 hours, so I hope I'm not cramping anymore tomorrow morning, or I don't know what I'll do. I have a cream that helps a lot, except when my cramps are at their worst. I can use that, but I don't think I should be taking any meds before the IGTT, at least not from what I've read. My doctor says that having the tests done on Day 4 is just fine. Does anyone concur, or do you know if this can be a problem? Thanks.
