Re: Afraid to try Met, please give me opinion

I think I may need to try Met, but I am not sure about this. Would those of you who have tried it please give me an opinion?

I'm 42, severely obese (355 lbs), almost diabetic (one more point and I'd be there), and have sleep apnea due to my weight problems.

I have gained 40 lbs in the last six months due to stopping my thyroid medication (I was overmedicated and was chemically hyperthyroid).

Now I am wondering if Met would be a good choice for me. I am going to ask my dr. to do an insulin resistance test. I would prefer to lose weight without it, but trying on my own does not seem to be helping much.

I am wondering specifically if it will be easier to lose weight if my insulin is in balance, if it will help clear up the awful water retention I am experiencing, and will help with energy. I'm leery to try it because they are not exactly sure how it works and I'm concerned about long-term side effects and possible problems.

Thanks to all of you for your input!
