My storyFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 6 Aug 2002 19:16:01 -0500 (CDT)
I was here a year ago last spring, suffering from many of the PCOS symptoms. I had weight gain, problems with insulin, facial hair, had not had a period in months, along with other non-tangible symptoms like depression and anexity. I connected with this list because I was so sure I had PCOS--I had all the symptoms. Once i started working with my GYN and the endo she referred me too, I started on a whirlwind ride of tests, specialists, appointments, more tests, more second opinions...and finally on May 31st 2001, after I had an cranial MRI, it was confirmed I had a brain tumor growing on my pituitary gland. It mocked all the symptoms of PCOS. I had surgery last year and am happy to report that not only did my metabolism kick in and I lost 38 pound practically overnight, but my periods are like clockwork, I had laser on the facial hair and now thats just a bad memory. The anexity attacks are gone and my blood sugar is normal. I am in perfect health and have never felt better. I'm sharing this because women who are so sure *without* proper diagnosis that they have PCOS need to be under a competent Dr's care. I might have been given glucophage and put on the pill if I had not found a good doctor who was willing to make sure we got to the root of the problems. Make SURE your health care provider gets to the root of the problem and doens't just treat your symptoms. Best to all, S.
