Re: Glucophage or Glucophage XR and doses

Sonnet/Becky -

I apologize. My doc (who is listed on the PCOS physician list) told me to take it this way...1-500mg, 2x a day. I remember asking her if I could take it together, and she said it would be best to take it separately...maybe that's just in my case - I don't know....but I'm gonna ask her again. I'm wondering if it's because it's easier on the stomach? I guess I'm not even near the highest dosage of 2000mg/2g...

Sorry again...Randi

Randi, as I recall your doctor had a reason for you taking your XR this way? I forget now! But the prescribing info from Bristol Myers Squibb says:

"Glucophage XR should generally be given once daily with the evening meal." (from Dosage and Administration.)

It does say that if you reach the highest recommended daily dose on XR (2g) and it isn't enough, then splitting your dose into 1g twice a day might help. This might be the case with you...??
