Randi, as I recall your doctor had a reason for you taking your XR this way? I forget now! But the prescribing info from Bristol Myers Squibb says:

"Glucophage XR should generally be given once daily with the evening meal." (from Dosage and Administration.)

It does say that if you reach the highest recommended daily dose on XR (2g) and it isn't enough, then splitting your dose into 1g twice a day might help. This might be the case with you...??
