Re: Glucophage or Glucophage XR and dosesFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 1 Aug 2002 12:03:24 EDT
Becky - You should definitely speak with someone again. The XR is Extended Release, which means that it releases a little at a time/works for a longer period of time throughout the day - and the pills should be separated...otherwise you are getting double the entended release all at once, which doesn't make sense. I take 1-500mg XR early and then 1-500mg XR later in the day (with food, of course). Here's the link to read more on it.... http://www.glucophagexr.com/glucophagexr/channels.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes& channelId=-1073750067&channelPage=/channels.jsp Randi Subj: Glucophage or Glucophage XR and doses Date: 8/1/2002 11:41:47 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: anonymous@obgyn.net Reply-to: anonymous@obgyn.net To: anonymous@obgyn.net Sent from the Internet (Details) I started Glucophage 500 mg once a day with instructions to increase it over a period of three weeks to a total of 3 pills, 1500 mg, morning, noon and night. I went back to the office the next week to pick up another perscription because I needed one for our insurance's mail order drug program. I noticed when I got home that it was now perscribed Glucophage XR. I emailed my dr's office and told them that it was a mistake. They emailed back saying that they talked to my NP and she did want me to take 3 500 mg pills of Glucophage XR at dinner. I don't quite understand the sudden change with no explanation. Is it normal to take the XR late at night all at once? Does Glucophage or XR work any better? Becky
