Insulin Level question

My gyn just diagnosed me as having PCOS and being intolerant to insulin. She told me to go on the Sugar Busters diet and perscribed Glucophage at 500 mg to eventually be taken 3 times a day. I have spoken to a friend who has the same thing and saw two nutritionists who never said anything about sugar and just to take the med and add more fiber to her diet. My levels are also confusing me as they seem to be normal according to the labratory chart. I fasted and then when I went to the dr I drank the orange syrupy drink. At 1 hour my insulin level was 77 micro IU/ML and at 2 hours was 16. She said that 77 was high, but on my lab report it says normal is 29-88 at 1 hour. I don't want to take meds if I dont' need them and same with the diet. I also can't get an appointment with an endocrinologist for about 6 months! I hope you can help me see if my diagnosis was correct. By the way, my symptoms are weight gain and extreme fatigue.
