Re: Question on IRFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Jul 2002 15:28:56 -0500 (CDT)
Ummm.... that article doesn't really say anywhere in it that IR is not the cause of PCOS, even in some women. It kind of supports the IR theory, actually. It DOES talk a little about the pathology routes the disease can take, how it affects women differently, but it doesn't say anything about the causes being different. The only thing in that whole article or in any of the articles that it referenced I could find was where it talked abou Depakote users having a slightly higher incidence of PCOS. That doesn't in itself rule out IR anyway, it just links depakote to PCOS/IR. Your article talks about genetic links, but that also doesnt mean that IR isn't the cause, only that PCOS/IR has a genetic component. It's very important to remember with this that the insulin connection was not discovered until the early 90's and not widely known about until very recently. It would only be in the past 5 years or so that any doctors would test for IR or that articles would mention IR. I'm not trying to start another war here - I really would like to see some scientific research on this that supported another theory. But this article is not that.
