Re: Insulin Resistance ?'s & what medicine to treat it?From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Jul 2002 11:52:06 -0500 (CDT)
My goodness, you went to an endocrinologist and they DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IR WAS? Wow.... you have been seeing very incompetant doctors then. Your gyn is not trained in treating an endocrine problem like PCOS and probably doesn't know how to treat it (yes, there ARE medications - very effective medications too!) First thing to do is find a new doctor right away, I think. An endo is still a good bet, especially a reproductive endo. You can check the pcosupport website (http://www.pcosupport.org, click on "Medical" on the left side and then "Professional members") for professional members of the PCOS Association, this might be a place to start. Or, ask your local chapter. It will be well worth your health to find someone who knows how to treat your illness. In the mean time, low carb diets seem to be effective for many of us at reducing weight and other symptoms. My only caution is that low carb dieting might mae your bloodwork (for seeing a new doctor) appear normal.
